Abuelo

Abuelo is a family-owned company, Varela Hermanos, which produces its rum in Pesé, Panama.

The business is run by the third generation of the Varela family, who began distilling rum in 1936 at the instigation of their three sons. Ron Abuelo is still a family company today, overseen by the third generation of Luis J. Varela Jr. All of the rum is made from sugar cane, which is grown and hand-harvested on their own property.

Visit the town of Pesé in the heart of Herrera province and the home of Hacienda San Isidro, where Panama's finest rum is made: Ron Abuelo. You'll drink 5, 7 and 12 year old rums as well as Ron Abuelo Centuria, a 30 year old solera rum.
