Akashi

White Oak Distillery, located in Akashi (Hyashigo Prefecture), was the first distillery to be licensed to distill whiskey in 1919. It was built in 1888 for the production of sake and shochu. At the beginning, the distillery dealt only with traditional methods of blending whiskey, which were reserved mainly for the domestic market. In 1984, it was adapted to start producing whiskey in large quantities. Eigashima Shuzo Company, which owns the distillery, has produced several single malt whiskeys called Akashi since 2007.
