Auchentoshan

Auchentoshan Distillery - The whisky has a distinctive clean, complex character and starts with malted specialty barley. Sparingly dried, completely unmalted barley from our Glasgow distillery lets the flavour of Auchentoshan whisky shine through.

The barley is milled to suit the requirements. It is very important that the starch grist is ground evenly to maximise the amount of starch that is miraculously converted into sugars during mashing. All this hard work means a fresh taste and clear wort from the lauter.

The milled malted barley - and pure water - are fed into the lauter at a temperature of 63.5 °C. The heat helps convert the starches into sugar. After two fills, it is ready for fermentation - the third fill is used as the first water in the next mash.
