Croft Port Vintage 2000 is a red port wine from Croft's Quinta da Roêda vineyard, near Pinhão, in the heart of the Douro Valley.
The 2000 vintage Port has remained true to its distinctive Vintage style, featuring strong and ripe fruitiness with juicy flavours. Croft vintages acquire great aromatic complexity and a fine velvety texture with age.
The 2000 vintage began with a cold and dry winter. April and May were very wet and half of the annual rainfall fell in these two months. June and July were dry. August continued to be dry and extremely hot. The end of August was characterised by ideal ripening conditions with long warm days. A few days of rain in September created ideal conditions and brought ripening to an end. The resulting wines were big and full-bodied with intense colour and very attractive aromas.
The nose of the wine is very dense, much more closed than the Croft of the 1990s, and the alcohol is more integrated into the bouquet. The palate is full-bodied, very firm in structure with a little more austerity than usual. Conservative palate towards the finish with an attractive hint of blood orange in the aftertaste. Good length on the finish.
