Deanston

Deanston Distillery is located on the banks of the River Teith, which is its water source. The River Teith, springing in the Trossach Mountains, is said to have some of the cleanest waters in Scotland. Deanston was founded in 1965 on the site of an 18th-century weaving workshop located just outside the village of Dourne in Perthshire.

The main part of the distillery is located on the site of a protected spinning mill. Thanks to the turbine and the dam, which uses the waters of the river Teith, Deanston is completely independent in the supply of electricity. In 1971, Deanstone produced the first single-species malt Scotch whiskey, called Old Bannockburn. A year later, the distillery was already owned by Invergordon. The Deanston distillery was closed for about eight years when it was bought by Burn Stewart Distillers for a royal sum of £ 2.1 million, and a year later production at Deanstone was up and running. For the next four years, even gin was produced in the distillery.

Deanston boasts two warehouses where 45,000 barrels are aged, 85% of which is used for various types of blended whiskey. One of these blends is Burn Stewart's flagship Scottish Leader, whose annual sales exceed 5 million bottles worldwide. There are only a small number of domestic and also only a few independent products.
