Dom Pérignon

The Dom Pérignon champagne brand has its origins in the legendary Benedictine monk Dom Pierre Pérignon (1638-1715), who was cellar master at the Hautvillers monastery in the Champagne region of France. Although the story is often romanticised, Dom Pérignon is traditionally considered to have played an important role in perfecting the methods of Champagne production.

According to legend, Dom Pérignon discovered the method of secondary fermentation of wine, which created the characteristic bubbles of Champagne. In fact, however, there were already methods of producing sparkling wine before him. He is particularly credited with improving the quality and stability of the wine, for example by blending different grape varieties and increasing the purity and clarity of the wine. Dom Pérignon worked to make the wine more delicate and resistant, which contributed to Champagne becoming an internationally recognised region for sparkling wine production.

The modern Dom Pérignon brand was only launched in 1936. Moët & Chandon began using the Dom Pérignon name for its prestigious Champagne, which is made exclusively from grapes from the best vineyards and only in the best vintages.

Dom Pérignon is a special cuvée, which means that it is an exclusive and limited Champagne, produced only in years with exceptionally high quality harvests.
