Fruit wines have a slightly lower alcohol content than grape wines. While traditional wines are usually around 13% alcohol by volume, fruit wines average 11%. However, these figures can vary by a few percentage points either way between different products.

Fruit wine is an increasingly popular alcoholic beverage - it is created by fermenting the juice of different fruits. The best known is currant wine or blueberry wine. However, cherries, apples, cherries, gooseberries, blackberries, plums, plums, strawberries, raspberries, mulberries, chokeberries, rose hips, elderberries, dandelions and rhubarb stalks are also used to make fruit wine. Many Slovak wineries are also responding to the growing popularity of fruit wines and are expanding their offer to include this type of wine.
