Gammel Dansk Bitter Dram
Gammel Dansk Bitter Dram is a bitter rowan liqueur from Denmark. It has been produced since 1964 and its long tradition is confirmed by the name "Gammel Dansk," which literally translates to old Danish.
It is a liqueur that boasts not having a bitter-sweet taste or medicinal tones. It has perfectly harmonized flavors - so that none stands out above the others. The carefully guarded recipe is known only to include the base of rowan berries and contains a total of up to 29 botanicals and spices such as ginger, nutmeg, anise, angelica root, and cinnamon. All botanicals and spices are left to macerate in pure alcohol for 3 months after being mixed in the right proportions. The liqueur is then softened with water to achieve a final alcohol content of 38%, which is bottled.
The bottle design will surprise you with its light humor. It was designed by architect Bent Severin from the former Danish glassworks Kastrup Glasværk, so that thanks to the long, specially shaped neck, you will hear the characteristic giggling sound with every pour from the bottle.
