Huge success of two Slovak gins!
In the second half of 2021, the family business BVD (Bird Valley Distillery) received international awards! Their purely Slovak products Gin Gin and Lúčky Gin won CPW&SC in the category London Dry gin double silver!
However, these are not just ordinary awards from the average company. Hong Kong hosts the most prestigious Cathay Pacific Wine & Spirit Competition every year. For the thirteenth year, hundreds of global producers have been fighting for medals in various categories of spirits, wines and beers. Of course, the jury consists of professional sommelier and gastronomy experts.
However, this is not the first international success of the BVD distillery. Borovička and Marhuľovica also won the prestigious IWSC 2019 world competition in London in their categories.
The real Slovak pioneer Gin Gin
Wondering how this gin differs from others? We will be happy to explain it to you. Every ingredient such as fruit, herbs or spices comes only from Slovakia. Strict attention is paid to quality during production. Gin Gin is made from homemade junipers and rare herbs from the Vihorlat region. This gin is exported to the Czech Republic, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Italy.
The co-founder of BVD, Branislav Flašík, also commented on the issue of recipe and local origin, saying: “Our gins are literally Slovak, as we replace classic gin herbs with Slovak ones. Gin Gin is distilled from linden flowers, which is a symbol of Slavism, but also from the base, mother's breath or doula fruit, ".
Lúčky Gin
Lúčky gin is the essence of Slovak meadows and forests. It is produced in Slovakia from fragrant junipers and 15 species of hand-picked wild herbs, spices and fruits (juniper, dandelion, motherwort, base, honeysuckle, hazelnut and others). It was created at the initiative of Slovak gastronomic establishments, which were looking for a local alternative to rich foreign gin.
"We collect and dry many herbs ourselves and fill gin in recycled glass bottles. We are very pleased that Slovak bars and restaurants often prefer local products and we again try to meet their quality and price, ”says Branislav Flašík.
