Ledaig Sinclair Series Rioja Cask
The Sinclair series is a tribute to Ledaig's founder John Sinclair and features several delicious whiskies handcrafted at the Tobermory distillery. This Ledaig Rioja Finish is the first release in the series.
In 1797, John Sinclair, an innovative seaweed merchant, applied to lease a piece of land known as Ledaig - pronounced 'letch-ick' - meaning 'safe harbour'. After his first application was refused, Sinclair persevered, staying true to his original vision, and a year later the distillery was established.
Despite a chequered history marked by closures, financial problems and even a name change, today Tobermory is a thriving, distinctive and unique distillery, true to its idyllic location on the Scottish island of Mull.
Inspired by the Spanish galleon that sank off Tobermory harbour over 400 years ago. Believed to have been laden with jewels, Ledaig's smoke marker was finished in hand-selected Rioja casks in honour of the Spanish treasure buried deep off the coast.
Made from heavily peated barley, this single malt whisky is created by maturing in ex-bourbon casks and finished in hand-selected Spanish Rioja casks, and contains strong flavours of smoke, spice, grapes and sweet berries with a lingering salty finish.
The colour is vibrant and reminiscent of a deep red Rioja, giving it a beautiful luminous hue. The bottles are bottled at 46,3 % alcohol with a volume of 0,7 l and come in stylish gift boxes.
