Moët Chandon

Moët & Chandon was founded in 1743 by French wine merchant Claude Moët in the town of Épernay, located in the heart of the Champagne region of France. Coming from a family with a long tradition in the wine trade, Claude Moët quickly recognized the potential of sparkling wines from this region.

From its inception, Moët & Chandon has focused on exporting its Champagnes outside France. Claude Moët built a reputation among the European aristocracy, which led to his champagnes becoming a favourite at courts across Europe, including that of King Louis XV of France.

In 1792, Claude Moët's grandson, Jean-Rémy Moët, took over the management of the company . Jean-Rémy was responsible for the extensive expansion of the brand and contributed significantly to its worldwide success. He made friends among the great personalities of the time, such as Napoleon Bonaparte, and ensured that Moët & Chandon became the iconic champagne not only for royalty but also for the new powers in Europe.

In 1832, Jean-Rémy Moët handed over the management of the company to his son, Victor Moët, and his son-in-law, Pierre-Gabriel Chandon de Briailles. This led to the official renaming of the company as Moët & Chandon.

Moët & Chandon became a pioneer in champagne production. One of its most important achievements was the creation of the "Brut Impérial" in 1869, which became the basis for the modern dry champagne that is today the best-selling type of champagne in the world.

The brand has also regularly introduced new technologies and methods in the production process, ensuring the continued quality and reputation of its products.

Moët & Chandon has built an image associated with luxury, celebration and prestige. It is the champagne of choice at international events such as film festivals, major sporting events and social occasions.

In 1971, Moët & Chandon merged with another luxury brand, Hennessy, and a year later with the fashion house Louis Vuitton to form the LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton) conglomerate, which today is one of the largest luxury goods companies in the world.

Moët & Chandon is still the market leader in Champagne, producing millions of bottles a year and owning the largest vineyards in the Champagne region.
