Rums from the brand Malteco come from Guatemala. This brand was founded in 1930 by the Botran family. Since 1993, the rums have been produced from sugar cane at the Licorera distillery in the Quetzaltenango area, a country privileged by its geographical location, rich in wildlife and history.

The sugar cane used to produce this rum is grown and harvested in San Andrés, but the molasses is then fermented in Quetzaltenango, where distillation and aging take place for 10 to 25 years. At an altitude of 2,300 meters and with climatic temperatures of 18 to 28 °C, Malteco rums age in barrels made of old white oak.
