Suau

Suau brandy is a prestigious brand with a rich history dating back to the first half of the 19th century. Mallorcan entrepreneur Juan Suau and Bennassar founded the distillery during his travels between Mallorca and Cuba, where he began producing his famous products. In 1851, he settled in Mallorca, where he moved his business and started importing the best raw materials from Cuba to produce rum and anise. Suau products became popular not only on the island but also on the American continent, where they were favored by well-known figures like Pancho Villa.

The Bodegas Suau distillery specialized in the production of brandy, rum, and anise, with their products gracing the shelves of old taverns in America. After generational changes, however, contacts with America were lost, and the business was restricted to the islands. During the Spanish Civil War, the company faced hard times when barrels of spirits got stuck in Barcelona and never made it to Mallorca. Federico Suau, the heir of the company, tried to save the business by making perfumes and later reached an agreement with the Mora family to help revive the distillery.

In 1989, the company came under the leadership of the Barceló family, who helped restart production and expand the market. Suau products became popular not only among older customers but also among younger generations thanks to new products and modernized branding. Today, Suau products are sold in 25 countries, including China, Germany, and the United States. Suau brandy, the only brandy produced in Mallorca, is so popular that in local taverns you don't order brandy, you order "Suau".
