Tears of Llorona
Rare, from private reserves, extra aged Mexican tequila from one of the most respected distillers in the world – the legendary Germán González. Mexican tequila Tears of Llorona Extra Anejo was originally not intended for sale, but was handcrafted in a small batch as a luxury tequila that this master distiller made for himself. Today, it proudly stands alongside the best world whiskies, brandies, and cognacs that inspired it.
■ For distillation, only 100% Weber Azul agave with a high sugar content is used, slowly growing on volcanic cliffs in the Mexican region of Jalisco.
■ Germán González then ferments the agave using selected yeasts and the resulting must is double distilled in copper pot stills using traditional copper pot still method.
■ In Tears of Llorona tequila, however, you will discover a flavor that has been elevated through the process of triple aging to a level rarely seen even in the most premium whiskies. This tequila aged in three types of oak barrels – after Scotch whisky, sherry, and Spanish brandy.
■ Extra Anejo means that it aged for 5 years, which is 2 years longer than usual. At the same time, this is the ideal time that allows the flavors of agave and oak to shine. Longer aging would overshadow the agave in favor of the oak.
The master distiller Germán González recommends enjoying his tequila from wide whisky glasses, which allow its full flavor to unfold.
Give it time to breathe and develop.
