The Balvenie

Balvenie is located in Convals in Dufftown. The distillery was built by William Grant just below Glenfiddich in 1892 and shared its water source, the Robbie Dhu Springs, with its famous neighbour. Despite also having the same distiller, Balvenie is quite different in character. It is one of the few Scottish distilleries to boast its own malthouses, which use hand-chopped peat. These Balvenie malthouses also supply the neighboring Glenfiddich.

Over the past few years, Balvenie has become the ninth best-selling single malt whiskey and demand is growing. Since the Balvenie Distillery was first built, it is still owned by William Grant & Sons, who also own the two neighboring Speyside distilleries, Glenfiddich and Kininvieon. The fact that it is an exceptional distillery is also evidenced by the number of awards and medals it has won from international competitions.
