The Real McCoy

The Real McCoy story is based on the story of Bill McCoy, a pioneer in rum in the Prohibition era. In January 1920, McCoy filled the ship with alcohol in the Caribbean, sailed as far as New York, and operated as a floating alcohol depot three miles off the coast due to a ban on the import of alcohol from other countries.

The company was founded by Bailey Pryor in the early 21st century. He came up with the idea to make The Real McCoy rum while watching a documentary about Bill McCoy. Bailey traveled to the Caribbean island of Barbados, where he met Richard Seale, the master of the 4th generation distillery in his family distillery Foursquare.

Together, Bailey and Richard developed Barbadian rum in a traditional style, following McCoy's strict regime, in which rum is never degraded by the addition of sugars, flavorings or colorings.
