Tobermory

Tobermory was originally founded by John Sinclair in 1798, under the name Ledaig. The distillery was not closed and reopened until 1878, when it was acquired by the John Hopkins Company.

In 1930, the distillery was closed and used as a power plant. It was not the only case where Tobermory was used for purposes other than the distillation of whiskey; in 1982, the buildings were leased to a dairy company that used it to store cheese. Today, Tobermory is the only distillery on the Isle of Mull. The distillery has a relatively small annual capacity of only one million liters and currently only runs on a quarter of it.
