Unhiq

Unhiq are mostly dark rums made from molasses from the Dominican Republic. It is usually a sweeter rum due to the addition of honey and sweet ingredients that give it its uniqueness.

The term 'malt rum' came into use in Cuba in the mid-19th century to refer to the best and most aromatic rum. Rum that was distilled to have an alcohol percentage between 72-74 % and poured into bottles with an alcohol ratio of 42 %. The producer wanted to create a strong rum with intense sweetness and robust strength.

Unhiq ROM is made from 72 % alcohol and blended with a 'lighter' alcohol of around 90 % alcohol before being matured in bourbon and whisky casks made using the Solera method.
