Unhiq is mostly dark rum made from molasses sourced from the Dominican Republic. It is typically a sweeter rum due to the added amount of honey and sweet ingredients that make it unique.

The term "malt rom/rum" was used in Cuba in the mid-19th century for the best and most aromatic rum. Rum that was distilled to have an alcohol percentage between 72-74% and bottled at an alcohol ratio of 42%. The producer aimed to create a rum that was strong with intense sweetness and robust strength.

Unhiq ROM is made from a distillate with an alcohol content of 72% and is blended with a "lighter" distillate with an alcohol content of approximately 90%, before being aged in ex-bourbon and ex-whiskey barrels, produced using the Solera method.
