Description
Ardbeg Grooves was released for Ardbeg Day and represents the distillery's experiment with unusually treated oak casks. The whisky matured in American white oak casks with an exceptionally deep char (deep-grooved casks), which created characteristic grooves in the wood and increased the contact of the distillate with the oak.
The result is a typical Ardbeg smoky base complemented by pronounced spiciness, notes of burnt wood, caramel, chocolate, and a subtle sweetness. Ardbeg Grooves is intense, bold, and ideal for fans of peaty whiskies looking for something different from classic cask profiles.
Flavour Profile
Color:
Darker golden amber with subtle reddish reflections, hinting at the influence of wine barrels.
Fragrance:
Intense peat and smoke, smoked meat, black pepper, dark berry fruit, a hint of red wine, saltiness, and subtle sweetness.
Flavor:
Full, bold, and complex. An explosion of peat, ash, and sea salt, complemented by notes of blackcurrants, plums, spices, sweet wood, and delicate wine sweetness.
Conclusion:
Very long, dry, and smoky with lingering dark fruit, spice, peat, and sea salt.
