anCnoc 18 Year Old
Pronunciation: { A-nock }The whisky anCnoc 18 Year Old is matured in a combination of second-fill ex-Sherry Oloroso Spanish oak casks and ex-bourbon American oak casks.
It was bottled as naturally as possible, without chill filtration or colouring. As a result, a light cloudiness may form when water is added or when stored at low temperature. This cloudiness is a natural characteristic of whisky that is not chill-filtered.
The whisky is produced by the Knockdhu distillery, which opened its doors in 1894, two years after the land was bought and the distillery built by John Morrison, a merchant who saw particular potential in the local area. Time proved him right and Knockdhu, located in the north-eastern tip of Scotland in the village of Knoc, has become an iconic distillery in the Highland area.
However, its operation was less than ideal. It was even closed for a time. Since resuming whisky production in 1989, the Knockdhu distillery has been presenting its single malts under the name An Cnoc. The reason for the name change was the fear that customers would confuse the long defunct distillery with Aberlour Knockando. The name comes from Gaelic and means hill.
AnCnoc 18 year old was first launched in the second half of 2004.
The palate is full-bodied and bold, with aromatic spices, fruit, pastry and candied lemon, followed by a wave of vanilla, honey and caramel.
