The breathtaking and dramatic Bareksten Navy Strength Gin also comes in a high alcohol strength form. In the mighty Norwegian forests, where sunlight rarely penetrates, the story of this gin is being created.
The gin is made from the finest ingredients such as juniper berries, angelica root, liquorice root and other mysterious herbs. This gin has a very rich and complex flavour that is characterised by subtle notes of citrus and spice. Moreover, its characteristic feature is its high alcohol level of up to 58 %.
The term 'Navy Strength' - this term originated in the British Navy in the 18th century. At that time, gin was stored near gunpowder, and soon some officers intuited that if gunpowder was moistened with gin, it would still burn at 57% ABV (114 proof) or more. They mixed the gunpowder with gin, heated it with the sun and a magnifying glass, and if it ignited, it was 57% or more. This was the only reliable method, and it just worked to prove that gin had a higher concentration, so 57% became the standard concentration for the Navy.
