The whisky brand Bunnahabhain was founded in 1881 by brothers William and James Greenlees along with William Robertson. It was closed and reopened twice during the twentieth century, and eventually production was limited to only a few weeks a year. Today, Bunnahabhain produces over 2.5 million liters annually.

The distillery was built near Bunnahabhain Bay on the northeast coast of Islay. The main goal was to take advantage of access to pure spring water from the Margadale spring and the ideal coastal location, which allowed for easy transportation and export of their whisky. Since its inception, Bunnahabhain has focused on producing smooth, unpeated whisky that is now known for its exceptional quality and character.

Bunnahabhain is known for its exceptionally clean and balanced flavor. Its whiskies have rich fruity and nutty notes, often with hints of salty sea air that come from its location near the sea.

Bunnahabhain's portfolio includes a wide range of whiskies, from younger to very old and limited editions. Among the most famous is the Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old, which is the brand's staple and offers a smooth combination of fruit, nuts, and spice, and the Bunnahabhain 18 Year Old, which is acclaimed for its complex and deep notes of chocolate, dried fruit, and wood.
