Four Roses

There are several stories about how the name of this brand came about. Perhaps the official version is the most valuable, if for nothing else, then for its charm. It is said that Paul L Jones Jr. fell madly in love with a beautiful nameless girl from the south. He was afraid of rejection and instead of asking her in person, he sent her a letter asking for a hand. She wrote that if she wore a red rose at the next ball, it would be a signal of a favorable response. To his delight, she did not have one rose, but a corset with four. And this is how the name of this brand was born. However, this story is basically untrue, because Paul Jones never married.

The official version continues - in 1884 Paul moved his distillery to Louisville, Kentucky. He registered the name Four Roses in 1988. The Frankfort Distilling Company bought the Paul Jones Company in 1922 as one of the few companies that had a legal license to distill for medical purposes during Prohibition. Seagram was bought by Frankfort in 1943 with a legitimate interest in the Four Roses brand, and in the mid-twentieth century, the Four Roses brand became a very popular bourbon, the best-selling in America. Nevertheless, Seagram stopped selling in the US market and focused its attention on the rapidly expanding Asian and European markets. Kirin Brewery Company bought Four Roses in 2002 and today its product range includes seven different products, two of which have only been launched in the US market.
