Mortlach 14 Year Old Alexander's Way
The Mortlach 14 Year Old is a single malt whisky distilled in Dufftown (located in Speyside in Scotland). Single malt whisky means it is made from a single type of malted barley and distilled at a single distillery. The whisky has been aged for 14 years in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks and is bottled at a strength of 43.4% ABV.
The Mortlach distillery was the first legal distillery to be established in Dufftown. Located on the site of an illegal distillery, it began producing whisky from the Speyside region in 1832. Since its beginnings they have been very limited whiskies and even during the Second World War they produced a small quantity of bottles. This Mortlach 14 Years Old - also called "Alexander's Way" is a tribute to the founder of the distillery: Alexander Cowie. Name refers that it is made in "Alexander's Way" distilled 2.81 times through 6 differently shaped stills, which are separated several times by pipes. This distillation process was an obsession of Alexander's and now has been captured in this rarely seen single malt.
