Overproof rum

Overproof rum refers to rums with an exceptionally high alcohol content – typically above 57.5% ABV (alcohol by volume). The term originates from the British naval proof system used to test whether rum could "pass the fire test" – meaning it was strong enough to ignite. Hence the name overproof, literally “beyond proof.”

Unlike standard rums (around 40%), overproof rums are diluted very little or not at all. This preserves their original post-distillation strength and delivers an intense, authentic flavour — from rich caramel and spice to bold fruity and smoky notes.
