Talisker Port Ruighe + 2 glasses
The second newest whisky with no length of maturation was launched very quickly after Talisker Storm in early 2013. Talisker Port Ruighe (pronounced Portree, like the largest town on the Isle of Skye) finishes maturing in Port wine casks, with initial maturation taking place in American and European oak casks, as well as casks that have been specially deep-fired.
Along with the distillery style, there are similarities to Talisker Storm in the stronger, oilier mouthfeel and wood smoke. Port Ruighe has picked up other characteristics from the Port casks, but adds sweetness and different nuances such as plum and chocolate.
After the initial wave of seawater drops, the nose starts to become more complex with Crayola colours, orange pulp and a hint of white chocolate. Cane sugar and even leucoplast make brief appearances along with hints of plum and liqueur ume.
The first characteristic of the taste is again a Talisker infusion, but much sweeter than usual. Thick and coats the mouth like a Storm with chilli with a bit of chocolate with orange. Increasingly smokier much smokier than the aroma suggests.
The bottles are filled at 45,8 % alcohol, the volume is 0,7 l and they come in gift boxes along with two glasses.
