Tullamore Dew

In the 20th century, during the Irish economic crisis and the ban on whiskey exports to the US during Prohibition, the distillery in Tullamore gradually disappeared. Production of the brand later moved elsewhere, but the name Tullamore D.E.W. survived and remained an important part of the Irish whiskey scene.

The real turning point came in 2010, when the brand was acquired by William Grant & Sons (owner of Glenfiddich and Balvenie, among others). The company invested over €35 million in building a new modern distillery in Tullamore, which opened in 2014. After more than 60 years, whiskey returned to its hometown.

Interesting facts:
The brand's logo features a phoenix, a symbol of rebirth after the great fire of 1785 that destroyed part of Tullamore. The whiskey thus also carries the legacy of the town.
Tullamore D.E.W. is the third best-selling Irish whiskey in the world, right after Jameson and Bushmills.
The modern distillery in Tullamore is not only the heart of production, but also a tourist attraction, visited by tens of thousands of people every year.
