Octomore 16.2 is part of the 16th series of the most famous "peatiest whisky in the world." This specific Islay whisky was created as a distinctly layered, deep, and intense interpretation of Octomore, combining an extreme phenolic profile with a rich maturation influence from various casks.
The whisky was made from Scottish barley, distilled in 2017, and matured in four different types of casks – Oloroso sherry casks, Amarone wine casks, Rivesaltes casks, and ex-bourbon casks. This unusual multi-cask system creates a depth that Octomore uses to balance its extreme peaty intensity.
Bottled at 58.1% ABV, non-chill filtered and in natural color, it is a whisky that preserves the maximum authenticity of the distillate.
On the nose, it brings notes of smoke, mint, dried plums, red wine, roasted barley, saltiness, and dark chocolate. Sherry and wine add sweet-fruity layers and a dry depth.
On the palate, the whisky is explosive, creamy, and extremely smoky – salty smoke, black cherry, cocoa, grilled fruit, cranberries, red berries, honeyed barley, and earthy peat.
The high alcohol is pleasantly integrated and supports the sweetness of the wine casks and the depth of the sherry.
The finish is very long, warming, with a combination of ash, chocolate, dark fruit, wine notes, peat, and subtle spice.
Octomore 16.2 is a bold, multi-layered, and concentrated expression of peaty craftsmanship – designed for the connoisseur seeking extreme intensity balanced by a sophisticated cask selection.
