Bruichladdich Octomore 15.2 108.2ppm
Octomore 15.2 from the Bruichladdich distillery offers an interesting and tempting comparison with its counterpart 15.1.
Distilled from the same batch of Scotch barley, which is also malted to 108.2 PPM, it uses a robust combination of wine and second-fill bourbon barrels, with the spirit being finished in first-fill cognac casks.
This unique triple combination adds different layers and results in a complex but extremely elegant single malt Scotch whisky. Hints of nutmeg, toasted oak and caramel add a smoothness to the palate, with Octomore's subtle floral character coming to the fore.
Initial maturation in American oak before finishing in French oak cognac casks adds a rich complexity to the whisky.
The resulting 15.2 displays the finesse of fine oak, is both powerful and elegant, while the whisky's delicate floral character comes to the fore. The subtlety of the oak is unmistakable on the palate and works beautifully with the mineral quality of the spirit and the dry peat smoke.
Bottles are bottled at 57,9 % alcohol.
