Carlos I. belongs to the Osborne Group, one of the oldest and most prestigious wine and spirits producers in Spain. Founded in 1772 by Thomas Osborne, the company has been producing, selecting and refining a truly renowned and authentic product for more than two centuries.
Carlos I is a traditional Spanish brandy produced in the region of Jerez de la Frontera, which is known as one of the most prestigious centres of brandy production. This drink is created using a unique system called Criaderas y Solera, where younger spirits are blended with older aged blends to achieve complexity and finesse.
The origin of brandy dates back to the 7th century, when the Arabs who settled in Jerez at that time distilled wine to obtain alcohol for medical and cosmetic purposes. As early as the 16th century, winegrowers and their acquaintances in the Jerez area were already drinking aged grape spirit, but it was not until the mid-19th century that it began to be sold commercially in significant quantities.
The history of Carlos I dates back to 1889, when a cellar master found some very old brandy barrels in a corner of his cellar. No one knew where they came from or how long they had been there. However, when he tasted their contents, he discovered that the precious liquid had 'an extraordinary taste capable of conquering the world'.
