Glenglassaugh Torfa
We have already experienced Revival and Evolution, and Glenglassaugh Distillery is now adding a peat drink to its line. Torfa (which in old Norwegian means turf or peat) has matured in bourbon barrels and is bottled at 20 PPM. We are glad to see that Glenglassaugh is back and running after being closed for over 20 years, and even has enough strength to try new things, as this is their first peat single malt Scotch whiskey!
Aroma: Smoke and citrus equally with sweet spices sitting happily between them.
Taste: Not too smoky. It certainly has its elements of the coast, but thanks to the fruity tones of melon, apple and even more citrus, it is more of a sweet drink balanced by warm barley.
Conclusion: Smoke persists even.
Overall impression: A good introduction to peat whiskey for those who want to taste smoky goodness.
