The Greek brand Metaxa was founded in 1888 by Spyridon Metaxas and has since become a symbol of quality and tradition. Metaxa combines distillates, wines from the island of Samos, and herbal extracts, creating a unique and distinctive profile.

The production of Metaxa uses sun-dried grapes of three varieties, which are distilled and aged for a minimum of three years in oak barrels. The number of aging years is indicated on the bottles by the number of stars. After the aging process is complete, the distillate is blended with vintage Muscat wines and a secret mix of Greek herbs. Finally, this blend is allowed to age for another six months. This production process sets it apart from the methods used in brandy production.
