Metaxa 5* is a brandy with an inimitable sweet taste. It is often recognized by experts and the public as a separate and unique category among maturing spirits.
The Metaxa brand was founded in 1888 by Spyros Metaxa. Brandy is made by mixing grape distillate together with grapes from Attica. To produce Metaxa, sun-dried wine berries of three types of grapes are used, which are distilled and matured for 5 years in oak barrels. The number of years of maturation is indicated on the bottles by the number of stars.
After the maturation process, the distillate is mixed with archival vintages of muscat wines and a secret blend of Greek herbs. Finally, this mixture is left to mature for half a year. This makes the production process different from the procedures used in the production of brandy.
The bottles are filled with an alcohol content of 38% with a volume of 0.7 l.
