Praděd Altvater
Praděd is an herbal liqueur with a characteristic golden-yellow color, a sweetish, slightly bitter herbal taste, and a harmonious aroma, made by infusing 16 herbs and fruits in an alcoholic solution.
The history of the Praděd herbal liqueur dates back to 1877, when the Krnov liqueur manufacturer Siegfried Gessler registered a trademark for the product under the name Jägerndorfer Altvater - Krnovský Praděd. This liqueur, with a strictly secret recipe, was hugely successful and became the flagship product of the family business.
Production continued in Krnove until 1961, when it was relocated to the distillery in Dolany as part of the reorganization of the national enterprise Seliko. Production continued here until its demise in the late 1990s.
The company Rudolf Jelínek could not stand by and watch the decline of this traditional brand, so in 2005 it purchased the trademarks and recipes. The tradition from northern Moravia thus found its continuation in Vizovice.
