It is a blend of different single malts from the city of Akashi, which together form Tokinoku, which translates from Japanese as "the smell of time". For that reason, it's not an old blend of malt whiskies, but at 40 % alcohol in this small 0,5 l bottle of whisky from the White Oak distillery, it's a good one for beginners.
The crisp fruity aromas make Tokinoka an ideal choice if you want to get started with Japanese whiskies. When tasted, its light style shows vanilla and malt aromas that continue in the mouth with elegance and refinement.
The White Oak Distillery, located in Akashi City (Hyogo Prefecture), was the first to be licensed to distill whiskey in 1919. Built in 1888 to produce sake and shochu, single malt whiskey production really took off when the facility was modernized in 1984. Eigashima Shuzo, which owns the distillery, has been producing single malt whisky under the Akashi name since 2007.
