Bowmore 12-Year-Old is an icon from the Scottish island of Islay, originating from the oldest distillery on the island (established 1779). The whisky matures in a combination of American bourbon and European Oloroso sherry casks, which gives it characteristic layers of dough, sweetness, and depth of aromatic notes.
On the nose, there is a harmony of gentle coastal smoke, honey, and lemon notes, intertwined with sweet floral nuances and a hint of sea salt. On the palate, warm fruity tones emerge – orange, vanilla, honey, tropical fruit, complemented by smoke, sweet caramel, and charred woody depth. The finish is long and subtly smoky, with mineral and salty accents reminiscent of coastal currents.
Bowmore 12-Year-Old is an excellent entry dram into the world of peated/smoked Islay whisky — it tastes great neat, with just a few drops of water to open up the aroma, or with ice to enhance the smoky and honeyed notes. It also pairs well as a companion for a thoughtful evening sip – ideal for savoring on its own, less suitable for cocktails if we don't want to lose the delicately balanced profile.
