Clonakilty Double Oak
Add a tasting glass and elevate your experience to the next level!
Clonakilty Double Oak is a premium Irish whiskey from the coastal distillery Clonakilty in County Cork, in the south of Ireland. The distillery is known for the Scully family's farming tradition and the use of locally grown barley. In
its location near the Atlantic Ocean, the whiskey matures in unique conditions where the oceanic climate influences the character of the barrels and the resulting flavor profile. This edition is named Double Oak due to its maturation in two types of oak barrels, which give it a complex structure and harmonious character.
Clonakilty Double Oak first matures in traditional ex-bourbon barrels, which impart subtle vanilla and caramel notes to the whiskey. It is then finished in American virgin oak barrels and in barrels made from charred European oak that previously held red wine, adding a more pronounced woody character, spiciness, and fuller body.
The aroma reveals notes of vanilla, caramel, honey, and gentle spices. The taste is smooth and rich, with hints of ripe fruit, malted barley, and oak wood. Subtle notes of spice, caramel, and sweetness gradually develop, creating an elegant and balanced flavor profile. Due to its complexity and accessibility, Clonakilty Double Oak is suitable for experienced whiskey lovers as well as those discovering the world of Irish whiskey.
The finish is pleasantly long, gently spicy, and sweet with a hint of oak wood. Clonakilty Double Oak is best enjoyed neat or with a drop of water to help unveil its aromatic layers. Lovers of quality whiskey will appreciate it just like other products from the Irish whiskey category.
