El Ron Prohibido Reserva 22
El Ron Prohibido Reserva 22 is an ultra-premium rum from Mexico, distilled from sugarcane molasses at a hacienda that also produces tequila. The name recalls a time, in the 18th century, when the kingdom of Spain banned Mexican rum because it overshadowed local spirits.
Distilled in columns and aged in 22 old bourbon casks using the solera method. This technique, borrowed from Andalusian fortified wines, enables rums of different ages to be blended throughout the aging process. Some barrels are filled with pecan and almond shells as well as peaches from the Mexican state of Zacatecas. The rest contain Guarapo. Guarapo is the juice extracted from the sugar cane immediately after the harvest during the grinding process and forms the basis of the Ron Reserva 22.
