Port Askaig 100° Proof
One of Port Askaig's key products, 100° Proof is a cask-strength single malt whisky with a peaty smoke and a subtle minerality, making it a great everyday whisky at an affordable price.
It is bottled at 57,1 % which means 100° Proof in the traditional alcohol measurement system (100 proof is a different marking, seen on American products). A perennial favourite with whisky lovers, it scored an impressive 96,5 points from Jim Murray at the 2020 Whiskey Bible competition.
Port Askaig is a series of whiskies from Elixir Distillers. The brand is named after the town of the same name, which is located on the east coast of Islay and has been known as the 'Gateway to Islay' for hundreds of years. Over the years, many smugglers and whisky lovers have sailed from here and the name has become almost synonymous with smoke, seaweed and tar. The distilleries of Caol Ila and Bunnahabhain are also close to the town and are said to play a starring role in several bottlings.
From Port Askaig, the coastline of nearby Jura Island can be seen in clear weather, and it is this coastline that is the motif on the label of Port Askaig bottles.
We recommend serving the whisky neat, but feel free to add a few drops of water.
