Zafra Master Reserve is a luxury Panamanian rum made from molasses using a small distillation column and aged for a minimum of 21 years in ex-bourbon barrels.
Named after the Spanish word for sugar cane harvest.
Blended by a former Havana Club rum master, Zafra is a pleasantly rich but interestingly dry rum with a superbly velvety mouthfeel and great balance.
In the glass, it' s a deep yellow colour with a clear ageing character and a hint of floral flora and lots of subtle vanilla and caramel. It's a rum that, with its hinted sweetness and complexity, is a great match for cigars.
There's a distinct bourbon barrel quality to the aromas of dried stone fruit and tropical citrus, melted caramel, vanilla, mossy river stone and spice cake, and it continues with a smooth, satiny entry into a dry yet fruity medium-bodied dram with excellent depth.
A long, evolving cascade of tobacco, leather, cocoa, cedar, nuts and earthy nuances emerge on the finish. An elegant, seamless aged rum for contemplative sipping or top-shelf cocktails. 95 points from the Beverage Testing Institute Rating.
Bottles are filled at 40 % alcohol with a 0,7 l capacity.
