Turas Math is the Scottish Gaelic term for the beginning of a journey – a moment full of anticipation, adventure, and the promise of returning home. Bunnahabhain Turas Math No.1 15 Year Old is the first release from the Westering Home Collection, a three-year series rooted in heritage, community, and the coastal character of the Isle of Islay.
Like a voyage at sea, this whisky begins with meticulous preparation: the finest Scottish barley, mineral-rich water from the Margadale spring, and hand-selected casks from Jerez and the Italian region of Veneto. They mature in the coastal warehouses of Bunnahabhain, where they are shaped by sea air, time, and tradition.
The base is a distillate from 2008, which matured for 15 years in Manzanilla sherry casks from Jerez – casks typical for their fine, drier sherry character and the signature style of Bunnahabhain.
It was then masterfully blended with whisky that spent 10 years in refill casks and an additional 5 years maturing in Amarone wine casks. These casks, personally selected by master blender Julieann Fernandez, bring deep fruitiness, structure, and contrast.
The result is a complex, contrasting, and elegant single malt whisky that combines sherry dryness, wine richness, and the unmistakable coastal character of Islay. It is bottled at natural cask strength 55.9%, without chill filtration and without added color, preserving its authentic expression.
