Bundle Kilchoman Cask Matured
Loch Gorm is the name of the annual limited edition sherry matured. Named after the largest freshwater lake on Islay adjacent to the distillery, the dark murky colour of the loch's water is reflected in the rich copper tones of the Loch Gorm sherry-aged edition.
Each cask has been selected for its unique flavour profile which, when combined with the other 21 casks, creates a beautiful balance of rich fruit character with layers of classic Kilchoman, peat smoke and citrus sweetness.
Loch Gorm 2024 is aged exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks from renowned winemaker Jose Miguel Martin. It is common for distilleries to use different sherry producers, but for consistent quality and character it is essential that they are sourced from only one winery. A combination of casks and sherry casks from Jose Miguel Martin have been selected to provide two separate styles of maturation.
These ex-Oloroso sherry casks deliver a combination of heavy sherry notes, spicy dark chocolate, rich fruit and burnt sugar. This balances beautifully with Kilchoman's peat smoke and citrus fruits.
The bottles are bottled at 46 % ABV with a 0,7 l capacity and come in gift boxes.
This limited edition Kilchoman Port Cask Matured 2024 single malt whisky from the Kilchoman distillery on Islay is matured in ruby port wine casks. For balance, two contrasting ages have been combined, with the youngest component matured for 6 years.
Kilchoman's founder, Anthony Wills, stresses the importance of full maturation, noting its complexity and the harmonious blend of Kilchoman's natural citrus and sweetness with the influence of the port cask. Aging in port wine casks adds an extra intense sweetness of cinnamon and figs to this single malt malt whisky.
The 2024 edition is the third in the Port Cask Matured series to be aged exclusively in ruby port casks, with the youngest cask being 6 years old. This full-bodied aging approach sets it apart from many others that typically use the aging method.
Kilchoman PX Sherry Cask Maturated is a limited release this year - 2023. The whisky has been matured for a minimum of 5 years in ex-Sherry Pedro Ximénez casks previously used by Bodega José y Miguel Martin, Jerez, Spain. The time spent maturing in Pedro Ximénez casks has given the whisky layers of rich, sweet PX influence that balance beautifully with the citrus sweetness and peaty smoke of the Kilchoman spirit.
The Kilchoman distillery is located amongst the traditional buildings of Rockside Farm on the north-west coast of Islay. The distillery is known as Islays Farm Distillery and its barley fields stretch west to Machir Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Kilchoman is unique in many ways, particularly for its 100 % Islay range, the only Scottish single malt from the farm.
Bottles are bottled at 50 % alcohol and come in blue and gold gift boxes.
