Set Zaya Gran Reserva + Matusalem Gran Reserva 23 Enigma
Discover the unique versatile rum Zaya Gran Reserva 16 Year Old! Premium rum worthy of enjoyment in every way. It has depth, complexity, and a touch of mystery.
Zaya is a name for "triumphant woman" in many languages and cultures. However, the recipe for blended rum Zaya Gran Reserva remains shrouded in mystery. It is only known that it is a precise blend of 12 rare rums from Trinidad and Tobago, crafted to faithfully follow in the footsteps of the rum that this brand once produced in Guatemala.
Each of the rums used is made from virgin sugar cane from the islands and personally selected by master blender Carl Homer. The fermented sugarcane juice is double distilled in copper pot stills and then aged in medium-charred white oak barrels previously used for whiskey and bourbon for up to 16 years. This meticulous production process has given Zaya Gran Reserva a memorable flavor and numerous well-deserved awards.

Matusalem Gran Reserva 23 Enigma is a luxury rum that represents the perfection of craftsmanship. This premium rum comes from the Dominican Republic and is the result of more than a century of tradition from the Álvarez family. It ages in French oak barrels using the Solera method, which gives it a uniquely balanced and complex flavor.
The aging and blending process is based on the Solera method, which was originally developed for the production of sherry and brandy de Jerez and involves the use of several layers of barrels, with the youngest rum at the top and the oldest at the bottom.
After the product is released from the bottom of the system, spirits are gradually added to and from the higher layers. The use of this method in the production of Matusalem rum is unique in its own way and ensures perfect blending of rums of different ages. The result is an exceptionally smooth distillate.
The Matusalem company produced rum in Cuba until the 1960s, when it was confiscated by Castro's regime. At that time, Matusalem held a 50% share of the Cuban rum market. Production was subsequently revived decades later by the great-grandson of the founder, Claudio Álvarez Salazar in the Dominican Republic, which has a similar microclimate to Santiago de Cuba. Rum is produced here according to original Cuban recipes.
Today, the company is owned by the fifth generation of the Álvarez family and Matusalem Gran Reserva 23 pays tribute to the family tradition, with notes of roasted almonds, honey, nutmeg, banana, and pineapple on the nose. Its dry taste then offers a refined spicy combination of vanilla, caramel, molasses, and wood.
