Equiano Light Rum is a young white Afro-Caribbean rum created by two authorities in the world of rum, Ian Burrell and Richard Seale.
It is a blend of fine aged molasses rum from the Caribbean island of Barbados from the acclaimed local distillery Foursquare Rum Distillery and fresh sugar cane juice from the African island of Mauritius, produced by Gray's Distillery.
It's a rum that's a perfect demonstration that young and white rums can be just as sophisticated as dark rums aged for years. The flavour profile develops the typical grassy, vegetal flavours of sugar cane juice rums.
Equiano Light Rum is best enjoyed in classic cocktails. We particularly recommend it as a base for a Daiquiri cocktail.
The colour of the rum is interesting in pale shades of gold. The aroma is harmonious and balanced, with fresh sugar cane, vanilla, dry oak wood and hints of earthy and herbal notes typical of sugar cane juice rums, with a subtle aroma of tropical fruits, citrus oil and green apples appearing in the glass as it 'mellows'.
The taste is intense with sugar cane, tropical fruits, citrus peel, green apples, pears, vanilla and fine oak.
The finish is dominated by a 'Barbados' component, a subtle hint of oak wood, the initial sweet notes of rum gradually giving way to citrus zest, vanilla, white pepper and sweet spices.
