Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2023
Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2023 is a limited edition of Scotch single malt whiskey from the island of Islay with final maturation in oloroso sherry casks from the Jose Miguel Martin bodega. It is common for distilleries to use a wide range of ex-sherry casks. However, this is not the case with Kilchoman, who use casks exclusively from this one bodega to maintain the consistency and character of their whisky. Aging in them lends the whiskey distinct notes of sherry, spicy dark chocolate, rich fruitiness and the taste of burnt sugar. All of these in a beautiful balance with the peat smoke and citrus of Kilchoman whisky.
This Scotch got its special name after Islay's largest freshwater lake, Loch Gorm located in the neighborhood of the Kilchoman distillery. Its dark and peat-clouded water is also reflected in the rich copper tones of this limited edition with a peat level of 50 ppm.
For the production of the 2023, the biggest heads of the distillery (Anthony Wills and Robin Bignal) selected 22 barrels - 8 came from 2013, 6 from 2014 and another 8 were distilled in 2015.
The whiskey was produced only in a limited number of 18,000 bottles.
