Rum Abuelo Anejo is produced by Varela Hermanos SA in Panama, Central America. This company has a history dating back to 1908 when Don José Varela Blanco launched his first sugar mill. In 1935, he began distilling sugarcane juice to produce liqueurs.
Today, the company produces an impressive range of products, including a wide variety of liqueurs and, of course, a broad selection of rum.
Aroma: the initial aroma is sharp and carries notes of fresh fruit and berries. As the rum decants in the glass, notes of vanilla and caramel emerge. Later, cinnamon accents come to the forefront.
Taste: just like the aroma, the initial taste is quite sharp. Vanilla, caramel, and citrus peel gradually give way to a robust fruity flavor of cherries and berries. These fruity accents remind one of the taste of bourbon in which the rum was aged. The rum also features well-known strong flavors of brown sugar, spicy cinnamon, and perhaps a hint of tobacco and leather.
Finish: surprisingly long, cinnamon, sweet
