The excellent Kilchoman Small Batch Release is a limited edition whisky that uses the finest casks available for maturation. This exclusive small batch release includes some whiskies matured in ex-bourbon, ex-sherry and STR casks.
STR casks are an innovation not found in many distilleries and were created by the late Jim Swan. The abbreviation stands for 'shaved, toasted and recharred'.
Each cask previously contained red wine, and to tame some of the overpowering red wine flavours, the casks are shaved on the inside to expose the active wood. This is then toasted to break down the harder oak elements such as cellulose. The barrel is then charred to create an active charring layer that improves the interaction with the maturing spirit.
The bottles were bottled at 48,7 % alcohol and no chill filtration or colouring was used in the production process. The whisky is presented in a gift box.

The limited edition Kilchoman Sauternes Single Malt 2024 spent its entire maturation period in Sauternes wine barrels.
Anthony Wills, founder of Kilchoman, selected a combination of fresh and refill Sauternes barriques from two different vintages, the youngest from 2018, creating an extraordinary balance of buttery sweetness, grilled pineapple, ginger candy and floral peat smoke. After a six-year absence, Sauternes Cask Matured Kilchoman is back!
The previous release was a Sauternes expression, now it's time to return to the full power that comes with full maturation in these wine casks. Waves of sweet fruit and butter balanced by the peaty smoke of Islay, that's this delicious whisky.
This time, Anthony has opted for 22 % fresh and 78 % filled casks from two years of distillation. This roughly 3:1 ratio of fresh and refill casks creates the perfect balance of Sauternes influence and Kilchoman character.
The majority of the selected refill casks were previously used for the 2018 release of the Sauternes finish. Using these casks for finishing is the ideal preparation for full maturation.
Aging in Sauternes barrels is challenging, especially full-bodied aging, which is why it is so rare.
The bottles are bottled at 50 % alcohol with a volume of 0,7 l and are supplied in gift cartons.
Kilchoman Casado Edition 2022 is a combination of Portugal and Scotland in the form of a perfect whisky. This single malt was matured for 6 years in thirty-eight ex-bourbon barrels, which gave it a spicy taste with notes of wood, pastry and cinnamon. Subsequently, it was filled for two years in two 6000-liter ex-wine barrels.
Thanks to this great combination, a perfect combination of fantastic fruit tones and spices was created. The word Casado means marriage in Portuguese, which perfectly describes this whiskey. Finally, it was bottled with 46 % alcohol content and closed with a cork.
It is made without cold filtration, dyes and flavorings. This limited edition whisky comes in a beautiful red and white gift box.
