Hampden Great House 2024 refers to a Jamaican distillery house that was used as a warehouse for barrel storage in the early 20th century. This is a blend using the distillery's most representative brands.
Hampden Estate is one of the oldest sugar plantations in Jamaica. Its origins date back to 1753 when the estate was owned by Mr. Archibald Sterling of Scotland. In 1779, Mr. Sterling built Hampden Great House, the ground-floor of which served as a rum warehouse until the early 20th century.
Hampden Estate is one of Jamaica's oldest and most authentic distilleries, known for its traditional rum production with strong ester profiles that give it a distinctive flavour and aroma.
The water used in the production of rum is not supplied from underground aquifers, but through the Estate's own mountain water harvesting system, with only clean water returned to the ground after use. Long-term fermentation is carried out by natural yeasts. Hampden Estate is one of the last distilleries still using pot stills to produce its rums ; it currently has four stills in operation.
The oldest is John Dore, which was installed in 1960 and holds 7,560 litres. The rums are aged in a tropical manner; more than 7 years in the tropical climate of Jamaica, which is equivalent to 25 years of ageing in Europe. Hampden rums are produced, matured and bottled without any additives, added sugar, tannins, caramel or glycerine.
The flavour palette of the rum is initially richly tropical (coconut, mango, passion fruit) and perfectly matches the exotic aroma. Alternating between warm and refreshing sequences, it also offers flavours of chocolate drops, slate fragments and mint tea.
Hampden Great House, a blend renewed every year since 2019, is the sixth opus of this exclusive series. This bottling is a tribute to the Great House distillery, which still stands in its original form.
The bottles are filled at 57 % ABV with a 0,7 l capacity, delivered in stylish gift cartons.
