Laphroaig 33 Year Old The Ian Hunter Story Book 3 Edition
Pronunciation: { La-Froyg }The 1987 edition of the 33-year-old Laphroaig The Ian Hunter Story Book 3 Edition is the third release in the limited edition Ian Hunter Story Edition, dedicated to the legacy that Ian Hunter built and left over 100 years ago.
Titled Book 3: Source Protector, it pays tribute to the legacy of Ian Hunter, the last owner and manager of the Laphroaig distillery, owned by the Johnston family, and his fight to protect the Kilbride stream. This story is about an intractable dispute between neighbours over a source of water that is a key source of livelihood for any distillery.
This 33-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from Laphroaig Islay was matured exclusively in ex-bourbon casks as a tribute to the distillery's legendary director, and bottled in 2021 in an edition of 4,800 non-chill-filtered bottles at 49,9 % cask strength.
Scottish-born Ian Hunter was the last descendant of the founding Johnston family, guiding the fortunes of Laphroaig Distillery from 1908 to 1944 and is still regarded today as one of Laphroaig's most important distillery managers, having made important changes to the production of the distinctive Islay malt, securing the expansion of the maltings and doubling the number of pot stills from 2 to 4. From his travels in the USA he brought back the first bourbon barrels in which the whisky has been primarily matured ever since.
The bottles are 0,7 l and come in gift cartons that have the look of a book.
