Nikka Nine Decades 90th Anniversary
This limited edition Nikka Nine Decades 90th Anniversary is a world-class blended whisky that includes whiskies from nine decades, from the 1940s to 2020, distilled at six Nikka distilleries, including Ben Nevis in Scotland.
More than 50 batches of whiskies have been selected, including the oldest malt reserve whiskies, Yoichi and Miyagikyo, and new grain whiskies, Moji and Satsumastukasa, which represent Nikka's heritage and future, and skilful blending incorporates them to perfection.
Bottled at 48 % ABV, this whisky is not chilled to best bring out its bold flavours and bring out its rich texture.
The bottle bearing the Nikka emblem is made using the 'Edo- bori' cutting technique, which originated in Tokyo (originally called 'Edo') and is derived from Western sand-cutting. This unique bottle shape, which was developed when Nikka launched the 40-year-old The Nikka to celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2014, represents Nikka's accumulated heritage.
The rich sweetness of apple pie and raisins with toasted notes of barrel aging leads into a subtle smokiness and nostalgic aroma of antique furniture. Complex and layered aromas give the impression of standing in a warehouse where the whisky has been peacefully slumbering.
Slight oak with deep depth forms the base of the palate, structuring spicy cinnamon, roasted nuts and rich dark chocolate. A subtle bitterness from the peat is balanced by sweet apricot jam and maple syrup, while the overall warmth evokes the sensation of sitting in front of the fireplace.
